Rocketship

by Chris Sorrenti

I'm building a rocketship for myself;
have been all my life.
Someday, it's gonna take me far away;
gonna burn a highway
past the moon and the stars.

I'm a natural space cadet;
don't need no impurities messin' up ‘my’ fuel.
You can often find me daydreaming
in some distant galaxy,
giving my spirit a much needed preboost.

Piece by piece,
I've been putting it all together,
as I move at a snail's pace
down to the launchpad.
And every now and then
I get a little sidetracked;
it's just the gravity of 'my' situation.

My rocketship's special,
my missile's unique;
it's the very reason I'm still alive today.
And occasionally when I manage
to pull away from my work,
I see other people...

working on their rocketships.

What else is there to do for an under cover alien? I'm building myself a submarine, but I'm beginning to think it might just be a dead end :>)
