Oh no
we mustn't ignore books
without them there is no past
and most certainly never a future
we carry them around like a ball and chain
and most of us don't even know it

Heaven forbid if they'd all burn in a fire
then we'd have to rewrite them
there are extra copies just in case
collecting dust in the Libraries of
Parliament and Congress

Books like it when we write
to maintain self esteem
euphoria unfortunately a fleeting shimmer
as we watch our latest creations
grow into Frankensteins
wonder if it’s worth the effort

Don't ask the books though
for even though they may be filled with words
books never speak
