Beneath the surface

by Shannon McEwen

Mingled in the folds
Layer upon layer

Questions unwrapped
Only to be refolded
Into the matrix

And barely touched

Not quite forgotten
Blanketed by confusion

Lying entangled
Hoping for freedom
With no real expectations
