Shape Shifter

by Chris Sorrenti

today I'm flat
as Arctic Ocean
in summer
she advises
inner churning
turning water into
only ginger ale
as everything Bonnie
treads softly on me

bravely barefoot
Maraschino toes
playfully plants
her feral sails upon
this knotty old man
expanding substance
into April wine

business end of soul
Aries teacher
cares enough
to golden fleece
my best features
with university eye
on spreading sky’s
future beat
nik

lesson
does not go unnoticed
tomorrow
is another wave
