Breaking her heart

by Steve Michaels

"I didn't write it for you." My
words scattering her
thoughts like frightened flies
postured aggression melting
into whiskey whine

She stubs out her cigarette, scratches
a lying earlobe and
smiles. "Sure you
did!!" screams and
bolts

I turn back to my chiming smartphone
"No, no I didn't."
