Shackles of Familiarity by Christel Crewsa memory flitted past
before i could stop it
and in that moment
i remembered
the smiles, jokes, comfortable
familiarity
and in that instance
i mourned the loss
of that happier time
when we could laugh together, comfortable
familiarity
however i do not miss you
in the way you want me to
and i don't know if i ever will
the passion died so long ago, comfortable
familiarity
could i spend the rest of my life
with just a friend, a roommate
and forsake any chance of marital happiness
is it fair to either of us to maintain this, comfortable
familiarity
but if we do
you won't move on, and i'll be stuck
believing that dreams are a childish fantasy
and doubt there is anything beyond
comfortable
familiarity

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 01/31/13 at 02:02 PM I'm sure we all can relate to this poem in our own way; I know I can. Both courageously personal and universal. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 01/31/13 at 05:27 PM How close is "comfortable familiarity" to "indifferance"? Maybe just a small step away but it seems like miles. Oh this hits home. Very nice Christel. |
