My Look Down Life

Has been a lot of things
But mostly it's been to catch glimpses
Of what people discard on the ground,
Such as things to kick around or ignore like small coins.
My look down life has been lots of things
But mostly it's been a life to look down on
Like the many things glimpsed on the ground
That people have discarded.
Like chewing gum or candy wrappers
Or something like lost keys
Or like a banana peel
To initiate a second Falling Of Man?
Was that your plan, you monkey you?
That with us laying down
Your hunched over species would take over
Straighten up and fly righter than we ever could?
My look down life has been lots of things,
But mostly its been
A love affair with looking at my feet
Shuffling shuffling but going nowhere quick
Or nowhere in particular
Or somewhere all too particular
All too familiar
To dig itself a niche
Alongside these others
On the hillside?
