there was a time
he was the sole mirror
in which she would reflect
times have changed
of late the husband
lying in bed tries desperately
to con himself into thinking
his wife is not turned lesbian
but is merely kissing that other woman
in her life
the one she sees
in the mirror
to whom she leaves hickies
made of lipstick and a note
written in the same red medium
which read - Dear!
please don't think to spray
these prints with windex and wiping
them off with a paper towel
for my memory has been
slipping of late and I want to
begin tonight exactly where I left off in the day
on this mirror turned ocean
traipsing my lips
on these islands
of lipstick
