A Must On Your Sightseeing Tour by Philip F De Pinto
before the umbilical
leashed me to mother
before such leash as was woven
to walk and to reel in this pup - before the jig
ever came up or my meaty desire
this leash this bridge which is
the first bridge the doleful must burn
if they are to venture forth to weave and burn bridges of their own
the reaper aka the grim charmer flying under mother's radar
and up to its antic tricks came romancing the bone in me
in fact came romancing the entire harem of my skeleton
before Ursa Major and Minor molt their fur
before the tranquil dog turns frenzied cur
the pup will be lured - you could say driven
to rev its engine round the tracks and furlongs of cemeteries
and then to make the eventual pit stop among the graves
before armies of words ever marched over tongues
before the umbilical leashed me to mother
before such leash as was woven to walk and reel in this pup
before the jig ever came up in concert with my meaty desire
I had a sense of belonging here among the graves
a must on your sightseeing tour
where it is written: all revving and youthful engines must come to rust
