Parable For Two

by Philip F De Pinto

How far is home
Away from here? I queried
A stranger.

Home - said the stranger
Is as near or as far from here
As you wish it to be.

I thanked the stranger
Then said would you please
Be so kind as to remove yourself

From the premises - as you are
Standing on the very spot
I plan to build my home sweet home.

Well! replied the stranger.
If that isn't the sheerest of ironies.
For you are literally loitering on the very spot

I had planned to build my home sweet home
Which will make us good neighbors.
That is if we comply to move from where we stand.

Or remain where we are
And be as homeless
As we were prior your querying

A stranger
How far is home
Away from here?

Ah, and as you know, 'home' is in the mind and certainly can be shared by two with a little work. Nice write Philip.
