she teaches many lessons

but mostly she taught the youngest of her sons
one of many marked X on calendar
not to complain
bitterly that the rain
and vats of tears
strained through the seasonal colander
and sifting down cheeks through the years
have not been a waste
collected mostly in vain
but serve a nobler thirst to relieve
and as great a teacher as she
was and is - if only he
could believe - believe
as the elder of her sons
has come to believe
in vain - in vain
whose thirst was driven by haste
not patience - who cares not a bean for the nobility of thirst
who foremost and first
would be sated
on the spot by rain and tears
which they if not the youngest son believed dated
and thus needing attention which was immediate
