It's So Easy To Make A Friend

it's so easy to make a friend
just keep your mouth closed like a fist
it's so easy to lose a friend
just open your mouth like the sea
your mouth being the sworn enemy of friendship
friendship which requires the mouth be sealed like Odysseus's ear
requires only that you lend an ear
an ear which took longer than the Titanic to build
and as quickly to sink - this appendage thought unsinkable
it's so easy to slip an ear into the sea
just keep your mouth closed like a fist
it's so easy to sink a friendship
just open your mouth like the sea
once slipped off its slip - an ear
hitting the snag of your pearly mouth
never arrives at port
and took down to sea bed
nearly every word it took on board
save those words whose tails
were provisioned with lifeboats
