I watched it all unfold
last Friday
In a small town
America
he most senseless
killings
I listened
and the tears started flowing
I thought of my kids
now grown
with kids
of their own
I can't help but wonder
how they felt
this morning
when they kissed
their kids
and watched
them walk out
and go to school
How did they feel?
Maybe more importantly
how did the kid feel?
It was something
you could not avoid knowing
Even if you
turned the tv off
it was all anyone was
talking about
If kids ask question
answer them
and be very careful
kids are notoriosly
intuative
they pick up fear
instantly
So....
Shouuld the teachers
have guns and ammunition
in their desks?
Is this country
that sick?
Should 5 years olds
go to school
armed with a gun
in their little backpack?
That's what
I read
to give an innocent
child a gun
ready to defend
yourself and your
friends
This country
cannot santion
behaviour
like that
But...
they are SCARED
that is ALL
they saw since Friday
A five year old,
packing a live gun
is not a plesant picture
etched in my mind
While it is true
that a gun by itself cannot
kill
But think about it
Would you truely
send your child
to school
with a gun?
NOT ME
BUT...
reality is
other parents would
Do you want to explain
how that gun went off?
Was it truely an accident?
There are a lot
of "bad men"
out there
...and I don't care
that the NRA
is powerful
The words have been misinterpreted
THey are
"guns for a well regulated MALITIA"
I don't believe it says
every loonetic should buy
enough guns to kill
teachers and school children
My G-d
my 18 month old
grandson
could buy a gun
and ammuition
to go on
never seen before
killing spree
Yes, this was phychotic act
but it will reapeat itself
until SOMEONE
has enough guts
to ammend that law
I'm mad
close to 30
innocent souls were killed
in a sleepy little town
My Grandson does not want to
go to school
My daughter
who does not cry
is hysterical
she does not want
to send her kid
to school
Stop this madness
You cannot legally own a gun
in Canada
....or Britian...
They have it right

Author's Note: For the people who gave their lives for no good reason
I would say you nailed it too, Joan. Excellent title...so fitting. What happened in Newtown crosses all borders, national and international. Here in Canada, it's also being heavily discussed on all the news channels, as if we too are Americans in this dark time, and feel your pain, desire for change.
