This Morning

by George Hoerner

i woke this morning
up there floating
on cloud three

some would say i
should be higher
up on cloud nine

i’ve looked
way up there and
it seems too heady

i’ve dipped my hand
into the cloud
trying to wash away
all the sins of life

but they will be muddy
forever, as they are
all original
they are mine alone

now this morning
i saw the sun
come up from the ocean
dripping smiles

funny, for i
have not smiled
except at myself
since i found out
what it means

i will tell most anyone
i have enjoyed
most of my sins
as i have hurt
only a few

but those i hurt
will not forgive

No excuses here. I liked "cloud three" and its level's explanation, the sun and its sunrise meaning escapes me, but I enjoyed this, George.
