I Dreamt Of You Last Night

by Chris Sorrenti

Odd but delighted
that you should write
the day after I dreamt of you
and the two daughters
we had had

But not in this world
around 5 and 6 years old
young angels
with long flowing hair
and the starlight of galaxies
twinkling throughout
the delicate strands

Though I can’t remember their names
it was just that kind of dream
so pleasant to awaken from
and carry as a talisman
throughout another hectic
groundhog day

The four of us surrounded
in a halo of love
like a vivid memory
from a past life
or of one
that might lie ahead

...cool twist, turning like a soft pretzel, down-feathered. ...what might lie ahead!

"What might have been", I wonder if we have all dreamt of the 'might bave beens'? I doubt if I lived this life again if I could be as lucky as I have been in this one. Nice write Chris.

I wish I could tell you the number of times I've had this dream (or facsimile thereof). It's nice to know that others have it too. I LOVE that feeling on waking, that one of everything being right in that dreamtime world.

....and IF I had to do it all over again....knowing ALL I know, I could not not have my kids. My Mom always said "Can't miss what you never had." Yet somewhere in the depths of my soul, I could NEVER forget the joy my kids gave me. IF I did nothing else right, I gave this world 3 incredible souls. Funny, in ALL my dreams, I am NOT handicapped- Maybe next time around? Quite excellent and thought provoking work. Thank you

I'm curious if this is based on a real dream. It's a beautiful poem for sure.
