Just Beneath the Clouds by Bruce W Niedt
Just beneath the clouds
a terrible wall of water,
winds without mercy,
horizontal rain.
Just beneath the clouds,
streets become rivers,
trees fall like matchsticks,
houses crumble and wash away.
Just beneath the clouds,
boats clutter the sand flats,
piers and boardwalks splinter,
a roller coaster lies in the surf.
Just beneath the clouds,
the worst has past, and the worst
is yet to come - how can we
ever be the same again?
Just beneath the clouds,
we help our neighbors,
try to be resourceful, resilient,
watch the sun peeking through.

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 11/04/12 at 04:25 PM Through this (poem) we are allowed to feel the pain; sometimes just being given the chance to experience the weeping is necessary for authentic resilience. This is what I find in here, with many thank-you's from me. |
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 11/06/12 at 12:42 AM A bit of poetic google earth here - I do feel like I have been given the opportunity to look down on all that has happened from Sandy. The last stanza takes the disaster into the next phase of recovery - a good way to end this. |
