Hieroglyphs

by George Hoerner

oh life,
you have left
hieroglyphs
all over me

without ever
giving me
the key

i've searched
the morning sky
the evening sun
the oceans deep
and mountain tops

i finally
found
the key
is me

and i've
bent it
so much
it no longer
fits the lock

Perfect ending. This was just great.

I've smudged it so much it no longer bears translation. =)

Call the locksmith and get a new lock, key, and a translation guide. Let us read each other and be reborn. :)

What strikes me about the mind-body as the key is that the knowledge of the hieroglyphs meaning is locked in the memory of their making. Suddenly the speaker knows that truth, being both the lock and the key...and the markings.

Quite the realization - I like the use of hieroglyphs, those enigmatic scribblings, suggesting age and passage of time, and the universal search. Thanks, George.
