When 'Done' Isn't Strong Enough

by Christel Crews

She is finished
with all of

you

There's a lack of understanding
nor does she care to
Grapple with the questions
that still

plague

her thoughts, One can only take so much
of the confusion
the frustration
the longing
the guilt

Maybe it is time
she shut every door
and started anew

What would that look like?
Her fear keeps

her

in a stationary state
but her heart can only twist
so far in each direction
back and forth is not healthy

can she run away
if only for a moment
to clear her

mind

and find the answer
she has been looking for
within herself

I especially like how the phrase "you plague her mind" comes to me out of all of this. It is as though around that thought swirls her busy thoughts. Well done!

"but her heart can only twist so far in each direction." Such a gripping depiction of tension. Whew!
