Unearthing Memories

by George Hoerner

i sit scraping
tundra from my brain
looking for lost words

lost thoughts follow me
tapping on my shoulder
hiding as i turn around

like a lost love
pushing my memories
asking to be remembered

they come saying
“remember when”
and i do recall

the walks the talks
the undercover scramblings
that ended with leavings

now scraping
to unearth the reality
of these memories

they should be
memorialized before
they are lost forever

Nice capture of how memories can suddenly come to surface. We don't have to live in the past, but it's sure nice to visit the good memories every once in a while.
