Twilit Serenade for One by Alison McKenzieIt was a salmon colored sky,
Both the sun and the sliver-moon
Appearing unbelievably positioned
One to the other.
Through the trees,
The orange-sun
Screamed for fire.
The birds whispered
To “hurry and nest;”
It was time to take first watch.
The air was
The color of tinted glass;
The magic of twilight.
The crickets and katydids
Set up some sort of relay
Just for me –
A continuous serenade
Unheard by any of the masses.
They belong in their sky,
Their nests,
Their forests.
I wander aimlessly through,
Wondering if I’ll ever find
Where I belong –
Grateful, always,
For the majesty along the way.

Posted by Christel Crews on 08/23/12 at 03:40 AM what a picturesque scene you have described! what strikes me is the line "A continuous serenade
Unheard by any of the masses" - if we would only take the time to stop and listen, we would find ourselves and find the answers we are looking for - thank you for this lovely piece. i hope you find what you are looking for |

Having been on that journey, Alison, I could not have said this better. Just perfect! |
