Seek God, and Be Proud (Maureen Glaude) by Don MatleySeek God and Be Proud (by Maureen Glaude)
I know all the grief and sorrow
All of you parents feel,
But please, look to tomorrow
Seek God, who sees you kneel.
I know the fear instilled here
By murder and sadness great,
Yet, dear friends, God is still near,
He won’t forget those he creates.
I know the love you all share
For children robbed of life,
But seek God, and he’ll be there
To help you in your strife.
I cried my humble tears also
For your children and my friends.
Now it is my duty to try and show
The forgiveness Heaven lends
Although you’ve lost your dear ones,
Their purpose has been strong
For they revealed what is being done
Because of other people’s wrong.
Perhaps the death of four youths
Will prevent the death of thousands,
By showing America the real truth
And stopping combat commands.
They loved their fellow man
In a stronger way than most,
By giving them a helping hand
Of their valour we can boast
So, comfortingly, we realize
They have not left in vain
For in mankind and in God’s eyes,
They deserve Gold Medals for their pains.
Whereas they give the Victoria Cross
To men who kill the most,
To those who try to prevent the loss
Of others’ lives, I make the toast.
So peace be with you friends
And love the world over,
For God stands with you “men”
Who won’t hide under covers.

06/24/2012 Author's Note: I came across this poem when going through some of Maureen's
Mother's effects. It must be a very early effort as it is typed out and signed "Maureen Matley". I hesitated posting it but I thought you might enjoy it as I am sure Maureen would not mind, no matter how early a piece it is. I will let you know if she haunts me over this. ......Don Matley

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/18/12 at 01:47 AM Wow, this is quite advanced, considering it was written before she was married. As the saying goes, "from humble beginnings come mighty things." Quite timely in your posting also Don, considering her passing, June 18, 2007. Hard to believe it's already been 5 years. I'm sure, in fact I know she's happy you posted this. Thanks for that. Hugs, Chris. |
