Come

by George Hoerner

come as you are
i care not what you wear
just bring your soul
and we’ll share a tear

for i have cried on and on
leaning on borrowed shoulders
leaving no tears but gathering
a stable full of memories

it is time for me
to give back to those
who i have failed
whose trust i have
twisted and dropped

let us down a glass
or two of drink
spill if we must
past regrets or distances
over the horizon
dreams not attained
maybe lost to time
the ultimate thief

let me fill your glass
and you fill mine
again and again
for if we do not talk
time remaining
is certainly lost
and might as well
have never started

This is full of tomorrow, like the best futures are. I love it!

I'll drink to that. Wonderful.

When I wished I'd written it myself is the only thing I can say, then it is enough said. That last stanza is simply magnificent, George.

these words finds you at your most tender, George. Your ode is divining a rod to locate tears, which I have shed through the years, which are deeply immersed in the ages and I hope you don't mind, my friend, if I shed an ample amount here on this page.

Even in my short years, this reverberates through my memory and shakes out the names and faces I tried to bury out of a sense of shame.

I love stanza 3, I have been on both ends of that one I am sure! This is just so eloquent.

Heartfelt. The simple sincerity of this, for me, makes the reality cut ever deeper.
