space

by Emily Davidson

is there a word
for a man
who likes everything better
at a distance?

perhaps it's every man

chasing a woman who's
shiny and new
gleaming with secrets
only worthwhile in their reticence

danger zones:
the dirt
beneath the fingernails,
words only spoken
in the dark,
a tear-stained kiss

to them
closeness cancels curiosity
and nothing is anything
without space

Both near and far allow for different perspectives on the same thing. I prefer my woman up close and personal but day in and out for years needs a little break at times.

A lot of great lines and wisdom in this.

You make a compelling case, worthy of a lawyer at the highest court in the land. Glad I had a chance to read this.

fascination with the unknown is, i suppose, one of the things that makes us human. that, and the (often related) art of making things complicated for ourselves. :) superbly concise; perfectly expressed.
