Brainwebs

by Johnny Crimson

Aiming lights
down Desert Drive
the sidewalks twist
with every stride

Deeper now
the pressure squeezed
electric veins
the pulsing beast.

Hammer out
escape these roots
puncture eyes
see through the truth.

I've managed now
to leave the brain
the sickness lost
a disease restrained

Though I may
still fantasize
about leaving such
memories behind

PTSD laughs
and stabs me back
right through the eyes
disease intact

It lingers here
inside my mind
a stain of conscious
of harder times

Fear not
I've got pills
a VA rep
whose left me ill

So I'll file
another claim
and wait 2 years
as denial awaits

I never fear for your safety, good sir. Fantastic, nightmarish and well done.

Is there really a 'cure' for PTSD

sorry it posted incomplete. Or is PTSD something like life with the only cure coming at the end? Good write!!

Feels like a real glimpse into you, my friend. Gabe is right, nightmarish and very well done.

Thankfully, I've never had to face the kind of combat that inspired this. None the less I admire the honesty of this piece, in how it delves into the world of the "vet," and PTSD. Excellent rhyming and cadence also, helps deliver the message.

Your rhythm and word play add to the texture and tone of your subject very well. This is a great write. Thanks for sharing!
