writing the pieces down

by Ava Blu

there are times when i want to never shave again,
let the hair become a forest around me.
get lost beneath the folds, let your arms become tangled inside me.
the pursuit of loneliness consumes me,
the idea that we shouldn't be alone because that means we're damaged.

the idea that a life means less if it's spent alone.

these ideas consume my thoughts and i twist around them
trying to find a way to explain something.
and the forest becomes fragile limbs.
the hair falls out harder than it had grown
and is it really so unwanted?
this hair on my face, on my body. it's everywhere.
i go to sleep when the trees are ablaze
and my arms are caterpillars moving as quickly as they can to escape.
these are not acid dreams.
these are not the things i think about when i sleep.
no, these are in the light ahead of me.
i can't live without them. i need it inside me,
the auburn waves tumbling around my face.
i feel it when the fire reaches the top
and i can no longer ignore the caterpillars.
these things are my arms,
they are writhing beneath by clothes.

the forest is alive.

You are really coming into your own Ava. I really enjoyed this piece. Keep it up. There is nothing wrong with being alone. And it is even possible to be alone in huge crowd.

Ooooooo. The deep intimacy of this, the riveting images of a life on fire and becoming something else, organic and potential and blazing...thank you. Maggie liked it, too. LK

Great perspective...makes me want to break out my backpack for a little hike (if I may say so)to something more primal, not wild, but closer to an earlier time, which does not dictate to us. Thanks.

sometimes the damaged parts are the most interesting... like the flaw in a diamond that makes it even more beautiful.

Has a unique mightmarish quality to it (with the carterpillars), that reminds me of some of my own writing experiences. Love the intensity...drama...well done!
