Unusual Dyad by Alison McKenzieWe are the same rhythm,
You and I,
A breath on the same wave;
Quiet ocean tides
Whispering to shore.
Our house is ancient,
Cracks in the lath and plaster walls,
Horse-drawn buggies
On bricked streets,
Whooshing wind in
Centurion evergreens,
An elemental applause
To us, endurance.
Oh, how our enchantment
Bathes our unioned miniverse!
Our love spills,
Trickles into settled seams,
Permeates the invisible vapors
We breathe
Nigh on opposite ends
Of the same seam,
Folded over to connect in
Our delicious dance,
A curious alignment of seasons.
I linger, deliberate
Over the length of
This life’s remainder,
Slow to unwrap
The entire blessing that is you,
One more spring to bloom.
