Angels in Sand

by Kara Hayostek

Arms and legs spreading
angels indented in sand
together, in love

surf washed over feet
Breeze caressed dewy faces
lost, outside of time

side by side we sat
eyes wandered new horizons
marveling our luck

sand we thought molten
by the heat of emotion
carefully destroyed

grain by precious grain
whisked away by gentle breeze,
the waves took the rest

we wondered how, that
gorgeous sun had set on us
lost in thought, we were

realizing that
time, stealthy thing that it is
declared a draw

we each walked away
bearing the only thing we ever
truly could have had

the only ever-
lasting, enduring, true love
seemed to be ourselves

It's truth incarnate. So much.

Ahh *sigh* this is so nicely done. I have to agree with Alison wholeheartedly.

you walk along a stretch of beach and you hold the world and all it contains in high regard, including love, then you come back along that same stretch of beach and something seems to have changed, you seem out of sorts with the world in including love. and yet, I still believe in it, wholeheartedly though I think at times that love could give two hangs about me.
