Unfortunate Wealth

by Jody Pratt

Dust
these tenacious cities
made of daisies
ravished by lavish semantics,
populated by problematic romantics
flawed by design; ludicrous schematics.
Voracious entanglements of ruthless dynamics
and fruitless endearments.
These engagements endangered;
raw with depravity.
Broken mechanics, systematic antics
diplomatic rabbits
to dust.

Quite the collection of delectable vocabulary to read aloud - dismal in the emotions it evokes, actually, but the Dust..... to dust marriage is unique and surrounds this theme in a basic deconstruction that I find clever.

Wonderful verse, and I think I liked the visual in those first three or so lines best.

Love this. I've been speaking it out loud. Would love to hear different people reading this at a poetry hub.
