you scare me too....

though not in the traditional sense
your ability to knock me out of my orbit
make the river of my soul change directions
that there have been others
in the end to my disappointment
...and relief
possessing only fragments
of the reckless attraction
felt when we were in the same room

and yes...I still want inside
though it was never only about sexual victory
glorious as it would be to share it with you
for as all glory...much too fleeting
more the privilege of one day at a time
unwrapping the secrets of your soul
beautiful...or ugly as they may be
for no darkness you might fear revealing
could frighten me more than what I already am

is it our history that scares you?
albeit brief
the folly of opposites in collision
attracting...repelling at the same time
and in the aftermath
giving birth to a telepathic link
up till now granting its possessors
merely the gift of avoidance
like so much talent and emotion gone to waste
a monster become
towering above us
both exciting and frightening in its size
roaring THE TRAIL'S RUN COLD...
a cruel illusion
and that the strongest love of all
is one still unfulfilled
