A Fond Adieu Ellen Marie

by Terry Olynik

Upon noticing a slight dwindling
In my slender comments total
I did out of curiosity as I always do -
Checked the recently terminated
To identify the dear departed.

Discovered an amorphous Ellen Marie
No longer rhymes and writes amongst us,
And while she had been kind enough
To read and comment on my poems
I sadly have no recollection of her.

In such cases one can only hope
That an unannounced disappearance
Is due to newly-created babies
Or job responsibilities or ennui
And not jail, meth, penury or worse.

Nice way of putting it Terry. My comments went down slightly also. Sad that we're all made slightly smaller when one departs.
