Lack of Insanity

by Kevin Fehlen

I'm a genius.
Truly.

However, there's something amiss.
Something wrong...

It's the lack of insanity
For insanity breeds genius.

What's it they say?
It's a fine line between genius and insanity!?
I beg to differ...

It's the insanity that breads the genius.
The release of inhibitions.
Letting the tiger out of the cage.

Perhaps if I was more eccentric.
Yes, that's the key;

Mismatched socks and unkempt hair
like Einstein.
A fascination with my own face
like Close.

I could be Godard.
I could be Hughes.

I just need to stop the sanity!!

Abiding by the rules
Playing by the book
Thinking of what other might think.

Perhaps if I had a drinking problem
Or smoked more...
Perhaps if I said fuck it more often...

Yes,
It's the sanity that is killing me.
The sanity!!

If only I listened to the voices in my head.
If only I acted upon the impulses in my brain.
If only I look at those impulses as true desires and not mere
electrical firing in my brain of no consequence.

Maybe it's the meditation.
I'm too calm. Too rational.

I should be mad.
MAD I tell you!

Dali!
Yes...
Perhaps I need a twiddled mustache
and an open sexual fixation.

I'm left-handed dammit!
I need to us that right hemisphere of my brain
And stop be so god-damn logical!

Live within the storm
Burn yourself within the flame.

For...

"Where is the lightning to lick you with its tongue? Where is the madness with which you should be cleansed? Behold, I show you the Superman. He is this lightning, he is this madness."*
