A Life Spent

by Steven Craig

A life spent giving
totally to others
waiting for them to notice
is a life spent.

A life spent saving
others reaching hands
waiting for them to appreciate
is a life spent.

A life spent trying the hardest
to please all that pass
needing them to acknowledge
is a life spent.

A life spent taking others bruises
being the empathic nurse they need
desiring only an acknowledged look
is a life spent.

A life spent taking the bullet
so others may live happily
needing only a moments sincere thanks
is a life spent.

A life spent in such a way
that others make story of long from now
remembering not the name you gave
is a life spent.

A life spent on the bridge
neither here nor there
needing another grasp to take you away
is a life spent.

A life spent in such a space
reserved for the weakest
and not the strong
is a life spent.

Still

A life spent in such a hope
with such a need,
within such a stubborn vision
is a life spent as no other could.

This is beautiful.

I echo Allison, beauty in all its altruist bloom.
