(untitled)

by Colleen Sperry

I scratched your name
without a heart
in the wet sand
at the water’s edge
where the tide eventually reached
to fill with grains to fade
and completely wash it all away

A short but brilliantly impactful poem about lost love, Colleen. Good to read you again.

water washes away all the impressions and yet water also gives us vitality... maybe sometimes the impressions need to be washed away in order for us to make new impressions. if we want permanence maybe we should move further from the waves or write in something other than sand. rambling comment... sorry.
