Young Legion of Four Thousand by Fredrich MohreUPI- It was announced today the
war in Iraq is officially over.
The casualties stand at 4,487 killed....
T'was a Legion of Four Thousand
Brave warriors from this land.
Who left their homes and families
To take a stalwart stand.
Horns wailed the battle anthems
They charged into the fray.
When the battle's smoke had cleared,
War's wraiths took them away.
They fell on fields of honor
Their blood the sands imbibed.
Now gallant, brave young soldiers
You're in our hearts, inscribed.
To this Legion of Four Thousand
We raise our torches high
In tribute to their courage,
As in flag blown fields they lie.
To all who knew this legion
Their task is still undone.
Let's honor all their sacrifice
And see this battle won.
Move forward, on to victory
Through hardship and through pain;
So our departed heroes
Will not have died in vain.
The mournful "Taps" is blowing.
Now home from distant lands,
Young Legion of four thousand,
Sleep well in hallowed hands
