Upon driving through Mobile

by Meghan Helmich

The majority of my life has been spent grieving
the loss of one love of my life
or another,
making solemnly sad playlists,
rolling in everyone's
sidewalk chalk romances.

But there's not a Mom-n-Pop drugstore in the southeast
that I haven't woken up in and wondered
where they keep the painkillers
and condolence cards.

I exist breath to breath,
eyes closed, chin up, sprinting
in faith.
