A challenge too large to face,
Mercury fends off the Sun,
with no sword or spear but
many craters as her shield.

this ode serves as a metaphor, if not a buffer for those things that Shakespeare describes as the multitude of shocks that the human body is heir to and these shocks do not exclude Planets or Messenger of the Gods or even Old Sol itself who ultimately must take his bitter pill like all the rest.
