I lost my J

by Jennifer L Banks

I lost my J! I say
looking forlorn at the 6 other tiles before me
I look around, under the table too - just ignore me
8 measily points for what, a fine word.
Oh wait it was supposed to be played on a DL was quietly heard
A small square tile, silently blessed
for it holds 4 more points then an F.
But under the table on Linoleum blooms
of 1980's patterns in beige and mushrooms.
I must find it, It would mean everything!!
I look at my last 6 tiles U,R,Y,I,F and C I think "I AM KING".
I cringe at the thought of skipping a turn
And wondering if my opponant would just quietly burn
I've never been so fascinated with this Scrabble game
the challenge, the spirit and the shame
of losing a game, "it's just a game" I say
As the J falls silently down my sweater sleeve
where it was caught up for 1 play.....
I look at the spare tile, put down the J, R, Y
grab my double letter score and sigh.....

I love Scrabble. This really gives the feel of being in the game. "J" is a one tricky letter to use.

I LOVE Scrabble and Words with Friends and love that you wrote a really cool and creative poem about the board game that's captured hearts for decades...thank you!
