Scrambled Eggs

by Tony Whitaker

Losing cruise control
the best of life was won
my first fanciful flight
into the center of the sun

Soaring feather light above
some brightly lighted byway
I flew into the night
to see the seven wonders
dancing on a pin head
to thread the sacred center
where abides a multiversal mind

But with every tabooed taste
one day I paid the price
falling from the thrill of heavens
then falling through wet forests
as I reached those darkened depths
Jung’s screaming synchronicity
Dante's smiling eyes belie
The lowest level awaits my name below

Is this truly trauma
A night in Holy Hell
Paranoia's pointed pike
rapes the very best
as this bad trip rapes your soul
the very best of you
Leaving paranoia and pain
in a tiny world we live in
as I was delivered
to Dante’s well

The mind is a mythic monster
a tiny window pane
an amygdala unchained
I sensed a psychic thunder
from that distant DNA
where survival led the way
fear often saved the day

Then you are at once aware
The "I" was no longer there
Someone else is sitting here
My mind forever changed
For a while I missed that old familiar train
Neither boring nor profound
Raising a new reality
I found my conscious surfing
upon crystal blue perception
the inner crust renewed

Time has framed my life
with this stranger who now resides
My life became unbridled
when I dropped inside to find
love and play
to mine
from this new creation
grown from introspection
to mold my life this way

Would I do it once again?
Hey, hold no doubt my friend
This rusting iron drum
Memories filled with famous fun
While giving love and guidance
for those who fell into the sun
while learning to become
as I had once done
Before…

Author's Note: From 1973 to 1974 I took about 15 trips on LSD. The last two were "bad trips". If you have ever wanted to visit Hell, well take a little trip, but I wish you well for my first 13 were trips I would not trade for anything in this life. If I did it now I am sure it would kill me. I can hardly believe it was 37 years ago!

You are indeed fortunate to have come out of it intact as they say. A really enjoyable read Tony.

After more than 300 trips over ten years, I can say I was done when I was done. Even through three bad ones, I learned more about myself than I believe a lifetime of prayer, meditation, or analysis could have taught me. Excellent and vivid recollection of these experiences...ty for the write! lk...

I never tripped, so it's always fascinating to read about other peoples' experiences. I am not so brave. You give this vivid, expansive ;), meaning, Tony. Thank you.
