First Snow by Craig AllenThe first snow of the season has come,
its flakes tumbling in small, thick clumps
slowly covering the lawn until only a few
blades of grass stick up as a reminder
that Summer has finally past.
The light snowfall continues through
the night and when morning comes,
sunlight gleams from a cloudless sky.
The lawn is brilliant white, and branches
of trees and bushes are thickly covered.
Toward the end of the day the sun
has warmed the landscape enough
to start a slight melting. The snow
begins to dissipate slowly, working
its watery way into the earth below.
The next day brings out car and foot
traffic to trample the melting snow,
making icy cold mud that dirties cars
and splashed pedestrians. All right,
enough Winter. Bring back Spring please.

| Posted by Shannon McEwen on 11/13/11 at 07:34 PM I love the pure beauty of snow before it's driven on or walked on, but the melt and the dirty snow not so much! great visual journey you bring me through here. |
