A likeable sort of poem

by Shannon McEwen

Like is a likable word
For a likeable sort
Liking the thing
That’s usually preferred

A likeable smile
In a likeable face
Taking the time to run
That winnable race

But is likeable a place
That fits in well
Into this dark and
Unlikeable space

Between the beginning
And the inevitable end
Where does this fit
And on what does it depend?

Like is a word
But what does it entail
And what truths
Does it really curtail?

This is cute. I like playing with a single word throughout a poem. It makes its way nicely to how we use "like" in place of other more meaningful words. Nicely done.

The poem surely is most likeable. Humor with an edge.

Much deep thought within this..and I ponder why do we like what we do? Is it for a true reason? something deeper within us? Great write!
