Sexton Beetle

by Rob Littler

mice in our kitchens steal cheese
from steel jaws under our sinks
and every so often one is caught,
and his breast is crushed

it is then that the death-bug will embed
in the dead tissue. black, black and orange
beetle , burying her head in the mass
of the thief’s flesh, laying her eggs

only then does this body become a womb

This is quite a beetle - interesting and creepy reading about it. Very efficient and ready to clean up and use the dead. Thanks for this.
