no knees needed

by Charlie Morgan

only a man who is gonna die soon
can know as much as i know;

i know tomorrow now. so, why bother
telling others whose ears're closed.

bury my urn on Daddy's belly, 22 inches down
and 2 and a half feet above him, facing up.

with his repaired knee he can stand
on his walk, upward to Jesus.

then neither of us will need knees.

ONE of the things I like about this one is the way you stand up to death and look it square in the face. Underneath: wisdom? courage? big words you probably wouldn't own, but I have to admit - they came to my mind when I read your newest pome. I kneel on one knee, head bowed, awaiting your next blessing. You are my newest shaman.

Ditto what Glenn said. I can't think of any other way to express it.

If you are in an urn, then your knees are burned...right?

Well I am hoping to get a brand new body..including new knees when I go..I really enjoyed this especially the thoughts of the journey with your father!

I know of people dying to write with this depth of clarity -- I guess it's those rose-tinted ear-lenses...
