Thank you

by Angie Jenkins

In a world where it has become acceptable
To always look back, to always question;
When it is better to tread the beaten paths of the past
Rather than forge ahead toward undiscovered possibilities;
When lines and distinctions are blurred
Between reality and what I wish had been;
When their lies become truths and atrocities
Become mundane;
When I become listless and the child-like whispers inside my heart grow faint
You are there to shield me from the deceit, the
Eyes cast down in my direction,
The pessimism that enflames our city
And attacks my heart;
You protect me from the bitter cold within myself
And help me discover the warmth and welcome
Of the forgotten – the truth. The reality.
You are home.
