Where is the off switch to my brain?

by Shannon McEwen

These whispers in a ragged brain
Promise me I’m not insane

With the ever present Cheshire grin
Where does it end or even begin

Thoughts in random swirling mass
Chaotic dreams and nightmares pass

Until I beg for just one hour
But the cat cries foul cause the milks gone sour

And the man in the moon sings off key
Dances with the spoon and refuses to see

That the cats a whiner and the spoons a cad
Or the moons a liar and the suns gone bad

Just go to sleep the wind tells me
Just one hour and you’ll be free

Promises that can’t be kept
When my shut off switch is so inept
