Behind this plaster mask
Beyond rational thought
The order sought

Beneath the skin, the bone, the blood
Between breast and brain
Where there is nothing more to gain

Hidden so deep, where I keep
The heart that beats
Before it retreats

Back to safety in numbers
Millions of cells to protect
Project the strength

From its actual size
To what they think they see
Until they believe it’s me

Vulnerability’s ultimate disguise
As indestructible armour
Instead of tattered emotions

Buried amongst the rubble
Reasoning piled up high
And concealed by ego
