There must be some danger for a writer
To feel increasingly estranged
From the formal spoken word

In recent days I have attended
An interview of renowned musicians and
A lecture on the theories underlying
Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor

First, there was no music
Second, there were no conclusion
Third, I felt dry as dust

The juices of life dissipate
Under the compression of
Abstract, layered utterances
Punishing the innocent listener
