Empathy

by Monique Louw

Pain, my old friend.

How I will miss you

when this life comes to an end.

Without you,

would I care

if I heard a child cry

if I saw the spark of life take flight

into death's endless sky?

Without you

ennui

without you

I would not see

without you

I could not be

Pain, my old friend

How I wish

I did not need so much,

to feel your touch

to understand

humanity

Wow! This is excellent and insightful. (Did you read my poem "A Good, Old Friend" which also speaks of pain as friend?) And WELCOME to Pathetic! Good to have you here

Gongratulations on POTD. This poem is quite beautiful. I am charmed by it. It utters a most splendid and insightful truth.
