2012 - The Prelude

by Alison McKenzie

2012 looms
Predictions and prophesies,
Polar shifts and magnetic fields,
December 21st and a last season solstice,
Convergence and coincidence,
Collisions only seen every
Several hundred years.

Where will you be?
And how will we walk on?
Is all this talk
The stuff that catastrophes are made of,
Or if we didn’t invest at all,
Would we manifest, in tandem,
On some parallel plane?

Should we stock up on reality?
Hoard it so there’s no mistake?
Do we need guns?
I said, do we need guns?
Or if I am weak, would death prefer me –
Skip over the unthinkable
To emerge anew in a different line?

The date approaches
With undeniable certainty.
And my path remains unchanged –
To live in each now
As if there may not be another,
Diligent in my quest to reach tomorrow
In whatever form my soul arrives.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm having an end of the world party on December 21st, 2012 and spending all the money I would have spent on Christmas gifts...But seriously, Alison, I like your take on things.

The stuff that catastrophes are made of,...YUP...that's what it sounds like, and you've certainly mixed in all the cliché ingredients in a unique way. Have a feeling though it'll be another no show, better, an anti-climax, and humanity will go on stumbling its way through time.

This captures so much of what many are thinking, feeling Laura..and the truth is that we all should be living more as if we have done enough for others today as well as yesterday and tomorrow..thank you for sharing this!
