Summer Shadow Sonnet

by Kristina Woodhill

Feet branded with sun-light's tongue licking, feet
soft on winter's eve, slender, silky soft,
lover's touch, tender, fingers brush, lover's
heat tip-toes up calf, quicksilver skin's heat.

Cold skies faze south, Southern Cross beckons cold,
kissed feet shed socks, northern toes wriggle, kissed;
sands seep in, moist imprints, kicked castle sands;
bold romance, bodies glance, chancing waves, bold

tidal foam crashes. Heads up! Sweet tidal
trickles iced root beer, ice-creamed white trickles
toasting boats, wedding yachts, dreams sailing, toasting
bridal bouquets, thrown, - hooked, rein and bridle.

June begets simmering, July trails June,
tunes up for August heat, weds summer tunes.
