Compound Perdition

by Brian Francis

Patiently I watched as you tossed your character aside piece by piece
Indifferent to the loss of all that made you worthwhile
The tics distort the perception of you and feed the paranoia
As others stare at the twitching spasmodic ghost of a being
That you have become

I remember you saying how you could use without being used
How control was yours and always would be yours
Others might have fallen to its spell but you were stronger
Better than those who had succumbed to that chemical reality
Yet you have become

I pray that you will find a path away from that desolation of self
Yet I fear you will challenge the beast again with your arrogance
Trust is a thing of the past; it seems to have no place in your life
You have fallen and I am waiting for you to get up to show me
What you will become

There's such a strong, steady voice in this. That really comes through in brilliant style with this.
